Limitations

We would rather tell you what DailyToolNest doesn't do than let you find out the hard way. This page is kept current as features ship.

Not built yet

These are explicitly out of scope for the current release, not accidental gaps:

  • OCR — extracting text from scanned/image-only PDFs.
  • True redaction — permanently removing content from a PDF. A flattened-redaction design exists but hasn't shipped; don't use any tool here to remove sensitive content from a document you intend to share.
  • PDF/A conversion and large tabular data tools (the CSV/JSON tools handle everyday files, not multi-gigabyte datasets).
  • JPG↔PDF conversion in either direction.
  • Accounts, saved history, a paid tier, API keys, and batch processing beyond what Merge already supports (combining multiple files into one).
  • A desktop app, and interface languages other than English.

Technical limits

Sensitive mode (on your device)

Your browser's available memory is the real ceiling, not a number we pick. We estimate a safe limit from your device's reported memory and CPU count and show it before you start (see the "Device limits" note on each tool). A phone with limited memory will have a lower limit than a desktop. If a file is too large for Sensitive mode, we tell you the limit and let you switch to Normal mode — we never silently upload it for you.

Normal mode (our server)

Files are capped at 300 MB each for PDF tools and 200 MB for image and data tools, jobs run for at most 120 seconds, and outputs are capped at 400 MB. Merge accepts up to 5 files at once. A file within those limits is always accepted; if the server is busy it waits its turn. Jobs and their files are deleted when you close the page, five minutes after you download the result, or fifteen minutes after processing finishes — whichever comes first. Time spent waiting in the queue does not count.

Browser and format support

Sensitive mode requires a modern browser with WebAssembly and Web Worker support (current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge all qualify). Older or heavily locked-down browsers may not run it at all — Normal mode has no such requirement.

HEIC/HEIF support decodes images for conversion only; some camera-specific metadata or multi-image HEIC containers may not be fully represented in the output.

Previews

Every tool previews the file you picked and the file it produced. The preview is always rendered in your browser from the bytes it already has — in Normal mode that happens before anything is uploaded, so choosing a file and looking at it sends nothing to us.

There are four cases where a preview cannot be produced, and each says so:

  • Password-protected PDFs. The preview cannot read them for the same reason the tools cannot process them.
  • Damaged files, which is usually the first sign that something is wrong with them.
  • Results made of several files — a split that produces more than one PDF, or a multi-image HEIC on your device — which arrive as a ZIP. Download it to open them.
  • Long documents preview their first 12 pages, tables their first 20 rows, and text the first few thousand characters. The count shown is always the real total.

One difference between the modes: on the device origin the browser is blocked from opening any connection at all, which also blocks the character maps PDF viewers fetch for some non-Latin fonts. A PDF that relies on those may show missing glyphs in the preview there. Only the preview is affected — the pages themselves are never altered, and the same file previews normally in Normal mode.
