Business Days Calculator

Count the working days between two dates, or find the date a given number of working days away — weekends and holidays excluded.

Days that do not count as working days

Enter two dates to count the working days.

Deadlines are rarely counted in calendar days. Payment terms, court filings, notice periods, SLAs and delivery estimates are usually counted in business days, which means weekends come out and public holidays come out too.

This calculator does both directions. It counts the working days between two dates, and it finds the date that falls a given number of working days before or after a starting date. US federal holidays can be included with one tick, and you can define the weekend yourself for a Friday–Saturday or single-day working week.

It runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, it is free, and there is no account to create.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether you are counting between two dates, or adding working days to one date.
  2. Enter the dates, or the date and the number of working days.
  3. Set which days count as the weekend if Saturday and Sunday are not right for you.
  4. Tick "Skip US federal holidays" to exclude them, and expand the list to see exactly which dates were removed.

Which days are excluded, and how holidays are dated

Counting between two dates is inclusive of both endpoints, matching the NETWORKDAYS convention in Excel and Google Sheets: a Monday-to-Friday range is 5 working days, not 4.

Adding working days is exclusive of the start date, matching WORKDAY. One working day after a Friday is the following Monday.

The eleven US federal holidays are computed for any year rather than looked up from a fixed list, including the rules that move them: Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, Memorial Day is the last Monday in May, and Juneteenth has been federal since 2021. When one falls on a Saturday, the observed holiday is the Friday before; on a Sunday, the Monday after. The calculator shows the observed dates it actually used, so nothing is hidden in the total.

Only US federal holidays are built in. For anywhere else, or for a company shutdown, the day count still works — set the weekend and subtract known closures yourself.

Questions

Does the count include the start and end dates?
When counting between two dates, yes — both endpoints are included if they are working days, which is what NETWORKDAYS does in Excel. When adding business days to a date, the start date is not counted, which is what WORKDAY does. The two conventions differ deliberately, and each page section says which it uses.
Which holidays are included?
The eleven US federal holidays, computed per year with the Saturday-to-Friday and Sunday-to-Monday observance rules applied. You can see the exact list used for your range before trusting the total. Other countries are not built in yet.
Can I use a weekend other than Saturday and Sunday?
Yes. Any combination of days can be marked as non-working, which covers Friday–Saturday weekends, a six-day working week, or a four-day one. The only combination rejected is marking every day non-working, because then no date is ever reachable.
Is it free, and is anything uploaded?
Free, with no account. The calculation runs in your browser and the dates are not sent to our servers.
